June 2018, BT Earns US News Silver Medal for 2nd Year in a Row

School of Business and Tourism earns ‘silver’ ranking from the U.S. News list of “Best High Schools” in the United States

(June 18, 2018) – For the second year in a row, the School of Business and Tourism at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex has earned a ‘silver’ ranking from the U.S. News list of “Best High Schools” in the United States. Each year, U.S. News ranks high schools nationwide based on various factors including graduation rates, college readiness, and state test scores, as well as how well disadvantaged students fared at the school

U.S. News has released an annual ranking of the nation’s best high schools since 2007. Of the 22,000 public high schools that were evaluated nationwide, only one-fourth were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals in this year’s rankings.

Business and Tourism or “BT” was ranked 229th in the state and 1,261st in the nation.

U.S. News’ evaluation, conducted in conjunction with RTI International, includes school-specific data on enrollment, college readiness, student ethnicity, location, school type, and results of state assessments and Advanced Placement tests.

“Congratulations to everyone at our high school and all stakeholders district-wide,” said Principal Dalton Cole. “This award is representative of the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, and students. I am fortunate to collaboratively lead our staff in preparing our students for college and careers through our Linked Learning approach to learning and teaching.”
